About Us
Betting Standard exists to answer one question for UK punters: which betting sites actually meet the standard, and which ones just look the part. New bookmakers launch in the UK every month, and most of them promise the same thing: big welcome bonuses, best odds, fast payouts. We sign up, deposit, bet and withdraw so you can see what's behind the promises before you hand over your own money. No hype, no paid placements, no "top 10" lists nobody has tested.
What We Do
We review and compare online bookmakers licensed in the UK, with a particular focus on new betting sites that haven’t yet built a reputation. For every brand we cover, we check the things that decide whether a bookie is worth your time: the real value of the welcome offer once you read the terms, the depth of the markets, how the odds compare to the big names, how the app and mobile site hold up, which payment methods are accepted, and how long a withdrawal really takes.
If a site falls short, we say so. If it does something better than the rest, we say that too. The goal is simple: you should know exactly what to expect from a bookmaker before you open an account.
How We Rate Betting Sites
Every bookmaker on Betting Standard goes through the same checklist, so a rating means the same thing on every review. We look at:
- Licence and safety – only operators licensed by the UK Gambling Commission are listed. No exceptions.
- Bonuses and terms – wagering requirements, minimum odds, expiry dates and excluded payment methods, not just the headline amount.
- Odds and markets – margins on football, horse racing, tennis and other popular sports, plus the range of in-play and niche markets.
- Apps and usability – speed, stability and features of the iOS and Android apps and the mobile site.
- Payments – deposit and withdrawal options, limits, fees and real-world payout times.
- Customer support – response times and quality on live chat, email and phone.
- Reputation – what real customers say, how complaints are handled and whether the operator has faced regulatory action.
Ratings are reviewed regularly, and we update them when a bookmaker changes its offer, its terms or its service.
Why Trust Betting Standard
We are an independent site. No bookmaker can pay for a higher rating, a better position in our lists or a softer review.
We do earn a commission when you sign up with a bookmaker through our links. This is how the site stays free to use. It doesn’t change what we write: a brand that pays us and fails our tests still gets a negative review, and brands that don’t work with us are still covered when they are relevant to UK bettors.
Everything we publish is based on first-hand testing on UK accounts, not on press releases or copied-and-pasted marketing. When a bookmaker changes something – a bonus, a payout policy, a licence status – we update the review rather than leaving outdated information online. You can find out more about the people behind the reviews on our authors page.
Responsible Gambling
Betting should be entertainment, never a way to make money or solve a problem. All the sites we recommend hold a UK Gambling Commission licence and offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion through GAMSTOP. If gambling has stopped being fun, free and confidential help is available from GamCare (0808 8020 133) and BeGambleAware. You must be 18 or over to bet in the UK. Read our full responsible gambling guide for more information.
